Vincent Van Gogh
March 1853 - July1890
A Dutch Post-Impressionist master, who innovated with texture and color. During his career, he created over 2,100 works of art. But, Van Gogh only sold one painting in his lifetime, The Red Vineyard. Today, he is lauded for his persistence and dedication to his work despite facing turmoil and poor mental health throughout his life. Van Gogh's primary medium was oil paint. Though, to make our lessons more accessible, our art masters use oil pastels. Some AMA projects are featured on the left.
Van Gogh once said, "it is good to love as much as one can, for therein lies true strength, and he who loves much does much and is capable of much, and that which is done with love is well done"
Claude Monet
Nov 1840 - Dec 1926
Known as the father of Impressionism, Monet's work catalyzed an evolution of the academic arts of Western Europe in the 19th century. Monet sought to illustrate the power of light and color to alter our perceptions of a landscape at different times of day. Based in Giverny, France, the artist is best-known for his Water Lillies, which he actually had imported for his garden.
Monet mused, "Color is my day-long obsession, joy, and torment."

Georges Seurat
Dec 1859 - Mar 1891
Georges Seurat was a French Neo-Impressionist, credited with his skilled development of Pointillism. This style of painting required Seurat to create a picture using individual dots of color. His main subjects were landscapes, cityscapes, and portraits. Our art masters love learning how to create depth and balance colors with this meticulous, yet rewarding technique
"The inability of some critics to connect the dots doesn't make pointillism pointless." - Seurat
